Meet Dr Elgin
There are only a few things you really need to know about me:
1. I am a perfectionist. I am always looking out for new ways to get the best possible results, with the greatest comfort and convenience, in the shortest possible time. There is nowhere you can go to get better orthodontic care.
2. I genuinely believe in that well-worn adage that you should treat other people how you would like to be treated. Chances are, you or your child do not appear in that photo at the top of the page. But when you entrust me with your orthodontic treatment, you become part of the Elgin Orthodontics family, and I will take care of you like one of my own.
3. My family and I live right here in the Coos Bay area. We care about our community and the quality of life here, so we are always supporting local causes and events. Most importantly for my patients, I am always here, so if you should have an after-hours urgent orthodontic concern I will personally take care of you.
If you would still like to learn more, grab a cup of something tasty, put up your feet, and treat yourself to my stodgy official biography…
Dr. Elgin’s Stodgy Official Biography
Craig then resettled in Portland, Oregon – the City of Roses. There, he attended Lewis & Clark College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, a minor in Physics, and securing a coveted membership in the Sigma Pi Sigma national physics honor society.
He then spent four years at Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry, where he was top of his class, earned his DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) with Honors, was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society, and received numerous other prestigious and important sounding awards.
But the story does not end there! Next, he bundled up his young family and moved eastward, over the Rocky Mountains, through the Great Plains, across the sea of swirly-twirly gumdrops, (if you don’t recognize the Elf reference, this is a movie you should certainly check out!) and arrived at last in scenic Columbus, Ohio.
At the rigorous and world-renowned orthodontics residency program of The Ohio State University, he was taught by the people who literally wrote the book on orthodontics (several of them, actually). During his years in Columbus, he conducted clinical research leading to a Master of Science degree, attended scholarly conferences, practiced in the university orthodontic clinic, and treated syndromic and cleft lip/palate patients as part of the multi-specialty craniofacial team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He eventually learned so much about making teeth straighter that he was given a Certificate in Orthodontics and informed that while he didn’t need to go home, he could no longer stay there.
His formal education at last complete, and with his brain now worth more than his house, Dr. Elgin moved back West and practiced orthodontics in Spokane, Washington for several years. He finally returned to Oregon when he was selected by Dr. Craig Stephenson to take over his longstanding orthodontic practice and care for the next generations on the South Coast.
Craig is thrilled to call the Coos Bay area home. From his first visit, he has been struck by the region’s natural beauty, matched only by the beauty of the friendly and open hearts of its people. When he is not immersed in deep thoughts about teeth, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, exercise, mycology, zymology, dancing like nobody is watching, wood carving, exploring the great outdoors and making shocking noises on a variety of musical instruments.
